Birmingham: Bindhya Rani wins fourth medal for India at Commonwealth Games. Bindhya won silver in 55 kg weight category. Bindhya stormed to the silver medal in dramatic fashion.
After Bindhya’s attempt to lift 114 kg failed in the second round, it was expected that her achievement would be limited to a bronze medal. However, in the third round, she lifted 116 kg and jumped to second place. Nigeria’s Adijat Olaria, who won the gold medal, lifted just one kilogram more than Bindhya.
Olaria lifted 203 kg while Bindhya lifted 202 kg. England’s Faray Morocco won the bronze in the category. Moro lifted 198 kg. Earlier, India had won its first gold in weightlifting through Mirabai Chanu. In weightlifting, Sanket Sarkar won silver and Gururaja Pujari won bronze.
