After reading the draft constitution submitted to a referendum, the activist committed to peace in Africa and in the world, former executive of the National Union, Sandrine Souah Akérey, explains in a brief summary addressed to the editorial staff of Gabonactu.com the reasons why she will vote “Yes” on November 16 during the constitutional referendum organized by the Ministry of the Interior.
In a country where freedom of expression, tolerance and peace reign, points of view are discussed but should in no way push fellow citizens to look at themselves as fault dogs.
When reading the new proposed Constitution, provisions seemed courageous and essential to the building of a nation, in particular:
From the candidacy to the election of the President of the Republic:
– you must be of Gabonese nationality;
– you must be born to at least one Gabonese parent;
– you must speak at least one national language;
– the descendants of the outgoing president will no longer be able to present themselves immediately…;
On the question of a Prime Minister: only the president who is elected will assume all governmental responsibilities;
Former Presidents of the Republic:
Former Presidents of the Republic after their mandate will become members of the Constitutional Council. (I do not forget that the law is not retroactive, so this will only apply from the next election of the President of the Republic).
Reading these few provisions, it appears to me without a doubt that this new Constitution is a step forward for a better Gabon. Furthermore, observing the free expressions of everyone who calls either to vote yes or to vote no, I note that our country is on the path to a new birth.
As it is often said: “In the beginning was the word…”
It is in the name of my civic commitment that for the constitutional referendum, I say YES!
