Commission of Bishops’ Organizations of the European Union for Peace in Ukraine

The Commission of Episcopal Organizations of the European Union (COMECE), which was held in Brussels in recent days, called for an end to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

The bishops attending the plenary meeting of representatives of bishops’ organizations of the European Union held in Brussels from October 12 to 14 strongly appealed for an immediate end to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. The Bishops’ Committee called on both parties to work towards resolving the conflict.

The Commission of Bishops’ Organizations of the European Union said in a statement that they are calling on those responsible for the attacks in Ukraine to end hostilities and bring regarding a just and lasting peace, following several calls made by the Holy Father, Pope Francis and the Holy See. What is needed is a solution that respects international law and the integrity of Ukraine.

In a statement prepared in the context of the 2022 Autumn Plenary Assembly of the Commission of Bishops’ Organizations of the European Union, the Bishops of the European Union expressed their deep sorrow at the terrible suffering of the people of Ukraine due to the brutal military aggression launched by the Russian authorities in Ukraine.

The bishops expressed their closeness to the people, including the millions of refugees, who are suffering because of this raging war. The Episcopal Council expressed concern that the intensified attacks that have been taking place these days create the possibility that the war will spread to more places with more devastating consequences.

In this conference, which mentioned the possible consequences of the war in Russia and Ukraine on the socio-economic levels of people in Europe and other countries, he said that the current problems highlight the foresight and values ​​that existed in the establishment of the European Union. The Bishops’ Conference expressed their joy at the declaration of solidarity with Ukraine by political decision-makers in Europe during the current crisis.
