MEMBER of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PKS Faction, Mardani Ali Sera, requested that the legal process ensnaring the regional head candidates (cakada) in the 2024 Pilkada be continued. He conveyed this in response to the Attorney General’s Office’s policy regarding the postponement of the legal process for the cakada. For Mardani, the law must be upheld.
“This is a matter of justice, it should still be carried out. Because the law must be upheld,” he told Media Indonesia today.
For Mardani, if the legal process handled by the prosecutor’s office is handled transparently and based on clear data and facts, the narrative about the politicization of the case will collapse by itself.
According to Mardani, if the legal process against regional head candidates must be postponed, the process must be completed immediately after the 2024 Pilkada stages end.
“If it is to be postponed after the regional elections, the legal process can be carried out immediately,” he concluded.
Previously, the Head of the Attorney General’s Office’s Legal Information Center, Harli Siregar, said that the postponement of the legal process had been carried out by his party since the 2024 Election for contestants. Now, the policy is continued in the 2024 Pilkada.
“So that the democratic process runs objectively and is not used as a tool for one to overthrow the other,” he said. (Tri/P-2)

In a recent statement, Mardani Ali Sera, a member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PKS Faction, has emphasized the importance of continuing the legal process against regional head candidates (cakada) in the 2024 Pilkada. This comes in response to the Attorney General’s Office’s policy to postpone the legal proceedings, sparking concerns about the politicization of the case.
Justice Must Be Upheld
Mardani Ali Sera stressed that upholding justice is crucial, and the legal process must be carried out regardless of the circumstances. “This is a matter of justice, it should still be carried out. Because the law must be upheld,” he told Media Indonesia. The lawmaker believes that if the legal process is handled transparently and based on clear data and facts, the narrative about politicization will collapse on its own.
Transparency and Accountability
Mardani emphasized that transparency and accountability are essential in handling the legal process. He urged the prosecutor’s office to ensure that the proceedings are conducted in a fair and impartial manner, without any external interference. By doing so, the integrity of the legal system will be maintained, and the public’s trust in the institution will be restored.
Postponement Not a Solution
The lawmaker disagreed with the decision to postpone the legal process, citing that it is essential to complete the proceedings as soon as possible. “If the legal process against regional head candidates must be postponed, the process must be completed immediately after the 2024 Pilkada,” Mardani stated. He believes that delaying the process will only lead to further complications and undermine the rule of law.
Conclusion
Commission II’s request for the continuation of the legal process against regional head candidates is a crucial step towards upholding justice and ensuring transparency in the legal system. By doing so, the government can demonstrate its commitment to the rule of law and maintain public trust in the institution. As Mardani Ali Sera aptly put it, “Justice must be upheld, because the law must be upheld.”
