Jayda Pinkett Smith commented on the fact that her husband, actor Will Smith, slapped comedian Chris Rock on the stage of the Oscars, as she posted on her account on “Instagram” a highly ambiguous comment.
And she broke her silence for the first time through a post, saying: “It’s the season of healing and I’m here for it.”
This phrase was not accompanied by any additional words, and the ability to comment on the post was disabled.
Jayda posted this comment following her husband publicly apologized to The Rock and the Oscar party crowd for his resort to violence.
The incident began when Rock joked regarding the shaved head of Jeda Pinkett Smith, Will Smith’s wife, who suffers from alopecia areata, which causes hair loss, and who has publicly revealed years ago that she suffers from it.
Smith suddenly rose to the stage and slapped Rock hard in the face, to the astonishment of the audience in the hall and the spectators who watched the evening from their homes.
“Let my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth,” the 53-year-old yelled to the host, following returning to sit next to Jada.
“Chris, I would like to publicly apologize to you, what you did was not appropriate, and I was wrong,” Smith wrote on his Instagram.
“My behavior at the Oscars is unacceptable and unforgivable, jokes regarding me are part of my job, but a joke regarding Jeda’s health problem was something that crossed the line for me, and I reacted emotionally to it,” Smith added, explicitly rejecting “any violence.”
Smith’s apology came following the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the body that administers the Oscars, announced that it had opened a formal investigation into the incident.
