A torchlight demonstration will be held on Friday (28/07/23) as part of the commemoration of the terrorist attacks on churches in Rome three decades ago.
On the night of July 28, 1993, a mafia attack took place on the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the capital church of the Diocese of Rome, and the Church of St. George in Velabro, a short distance away. Both the temples were heavily damaged in the blasts and many people were injured.
The Diocese of Rome and the City of Rome jointly organize this candlelight vigil to commemorate the victims of mafia attacks and to further strengthen the fight once morest the mafia, which destroys our hope, sows terror and robs us of our future. Various organizations and Catholic movements will participate in this demonstration.
Starting from the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the torchlight procession will end at the Church of St. George.
