Commemorating the fallen of Paris in Argentina

Several protest actions and commemorative events took place in Argentina this week in connection with the attacks on the Kurdish liberation movement in Paris. Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan, Leyla Şaylemez, Evîn Goyî, Mîr Perwer and Abdurrahman Kızıl, who were killed in the attacks on January 9, 2013 and December 23, 2022, were commemorated in Córdoba. At the event, a video regarding the fights of Sakine Cansız and Evîn Goyî was shown, and the Jineolojî researcher Nagihan Akarsel, who was murdered by the Turkish secret service in Silêmanî on October 4, 2022, was commemorated.

In the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires, the mothers of the Plaza de Mayo addressed the attacks in Paris in their Thursday action, with which they demanded the clarification of the whereregardings of their children who disappeared during the military dictatorship. Speeches commemorated the Kurdish dead in Paris and pointed out the connection between the two attacks that took place ten years apart. “The Kurdistan fallen are here – now and always!” those present shouted as an expression of solidarity.

A protest took place in front of the French consulate in Buenos Aires on Friday. Many different organizations took part in the action, including “Memoria Verdad Y Justicia”, “Pañelos en Rebeldia”, “Ni Una Menos” and “Nunca Mas” in addition to the Madres de Plaza de Mayo. The activists called for the Paris attacks to be clarified and for a conversation with the ambassador. The demands were presented to Embassy official Virginia Reynal along with an information dossier. The action was ended with the call “Jin Jiyan Azadî” (Woman Life Freedom).
