Summary
- Blade, Marvel’s Vampire Hunter
- The reboot of Blade in the MCU
Blade, Marvel’s Vampire Hunter
Blade is not necessarily the most famous character in Marvel comics. A little reminder is therefore in order. Blade is the superhero name of a certain Eric Brooks. Born with superhuman abilities due to the vampire blood flowing through his veins, he decides to exploit them in order to find the vampire who killed his mother. A story told in the comics, but also in the trilogy of films that began in 1998.
If the character has therefore already been introduced to the cinema, his story unfortunately does not stick to the MCU that Marvel began to establish with the first Iron Man in 2008. Eager to still see Blade take part in his new narrative arc, the company therefore decided to produce a reboot of the character. The latter will allow Blade to fully fit into the framework of the MCU and even perhaps to become a centerpiece. And it’s been a while since Marvel exposed this plan to us.
The reboot of Blade in the MCU
For several months now, Marvel has been making our mouths water with its reboot of the adventures of the vampire hunter. The superhero giant first took malicious pleasure in teasing the return of the character, before revealing the cast. This is Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Hunger Games) who will replace Wesley Snipes. He will be surrounded by Delroy Lindo, Aaron Pierre and Milan Ray in particular, whose roles have not yet been announced. For the rest of the team, we find Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) to the realization and Stacy Osei-Kuffour (Watchmen) to the scenario. Another little information released by Marvel: this movie should be hugely important to the entire MCU.
After many such teasers, this time the release date was unveiled at Comic-Con in San Diego. It must be said that this event was really an opportunity for Marvel to draw up its program for the years to come. In the middle of Avengers, Thunderbolts and others The Marvels, Blade therefore quite naturally also found a release date. Whoever wins the place of fourth film of Phase 5 of the MCU will be released on November 2, 2023 in American theaters (a priori on November 1 with us). Note that it will be followed a year later by another reboot of a Marvel license, namely The Fantastic Four.
