On August 13, ComediHa! presents a gala hosted by Michel Courtemanche. The guests have been announced, they are Stéphane Raymond, Alain Choquette, Claude Legault, Alexandre Bisaillon, Réal Béland, Didier Lucien, David Beaucage, Marc Dupré, Christophe Dupéré, Mario Jean, Colin Boudrias and Martin Petit.
Isn’t there something wrong? It seems to me that it is obvious.
Why are no women among these names? Has anyone in the organization noticed?
I was reading in 24 hours the words of Emna Achour, a comedian who is part of the collective of women behind the Instagram page @pasdefillsurlepacing: “ComediHa! which is the second biggest festival [d’humour] in Quebec, which is really the only one to do galas this year […]without embarrassment, they make a line-up with 12 men and 0 women”.
I completely agree with her when she talks regarding finding this situation unacceptable in 2023.
Still a lot of work
I know it, I have been close to the world of humor for many years: even if things are improving little by little, there is still a lot of work to be done in the world of humor so that women comedians are included at their fair value.
The ComediHa! of next August 13 is a good reminder of this. I sincerely thought that an organization of this size would have been aware of this for a long time.
This kind of situation is detrimental to our collective ascent towards a society where women have the same chances of radiating humor as men.
And for all those who think that it is difficult to find high-calibre women comedians in Quebec, I invite you to take a greater interest in the emerging female comedians of this milieu.
All the funny little girls in Quebec deserve to feel that the dream of becoming a great comedian who does galas is as accessible to them as it is to little guys.
