François Piquemal, LFI deputy for Haute-Garonne, asks the new Minister of Health how he intends to fight once morest the tiger mosquito.
A deputy has decided to tackle the scourge of the tiger mosquito, now present in 67 metropolitan departments. In the urban area of Toulouse, the number of insects has thus tripled in one year.
A tiger mosquito proliferating in mainland France
François Piquemal, LFI deputy for Haute-Garonne, will ask a question on this subject to the new Minister of Health. Why did you decide to warn regarding this? “It is not new, in Toulouse but also in a large part of the south of France, that there are problems with the tiger mosquito. It may seem anecdotal, a mosquito bite. But with the proliferation of tiger mosquitoes, some people no longer sleep properly at night.
“The problem of proliferation raises the question of future diseases. Cases of dengue fever and chikungunya are more and more frequent. Last year, more than 370 cases of dengue fever were recorded in France, 25 of chikungunya and even six of Zika. For all these reasons, it seemed to me necessary to alert the Ministry of Health. Is there going to be a plan to respond to patients with these diseases? More generally, will Aurélien Rousseau get in touch with other ministers to have a plan to regulate these tiger mosquitoes?

Review our relationship to the living
“The tiger mosquito is neo-liberal capitalist globalization, believes François Piquemal, LFI deputy for Haute-Garonne. It is a species which is not endogenous and which comes from international trade, and finds the conditions for proliferation in the fact that we have encroached on biodiversity. We know that there are living species such as bats, swallows, which are potential predators of the tiger mosquito.”
“This forces us to see our relationship with the living. Residents have created a collective called the tiger brigades, creating perches for swallows to settle there, and enjoy the food of tiger mosquitoes. There is prevention to be done, especially with regard to stagnant water.“
