As the Lithuanian military announced on Sunday, the German ships “Hessen” and “Spessart”, the Polish “Czernicki”, “Hancza” and “Druzno”, as well as the Dutch “Vlaardingen” are visiting Klaipėda.
“The visit to Klaipėda port provides an opportunity to replenish supplies in order to maintain a high level of our readiness. In addition, it provides an opportunity to foster friendship, trust and build on the shared values that are the foundation of our Alliance,” NATO Battleship Group Commander Rear Admiral Thorsten Marx said in a statement.
During the meeting between him, as well as the commander of the anti-mine ship group, Commodore Piotr Bartosewičius (Piotros Bartosevičius), and the commander of the warship flotilla of the Lithuanian Navy, Sea Captain Tad Jablonski, the current security situation in the Baltic Sea and the readiness of the allies to quickly respond to possible challenges were discussed.
These two groups of military ships operating recently in the Baltic Sea, together with the Italian ship “Marceglia”, which visited Klaipėda in November, form the core of NATO’s maritime capabilities in the region.
Allied ships constantly operating in the Baltic Sea are conducting various trainings, thus demonstrating the Alliance’s solidarity and unity to ensure security in the region.
