Coltejer requests authorization from the Ministry of Labor to carry out mass layoffs – Medellín – Colombia

Coltejer, the traditional and well-known textile company from Antioquia, surprised with an announcement that shows the economic crisis it is going through.

Through a brief statement, the company informed that requested the Ministry of Labor authorization to advance a collective dismissal.

This decision, says the letter, was made within the framework of article 5.2.4.3.1 of Decree 151 of 2021.

This unfortunate news is a consequence of other bad news announced by the company in its most recent Assembly, which had to do with the impossibility of resuming operations this year.

So far, it is not clear how many people would be left unemployed by this decision.

What is known is that in December 2020 Coltejer had announced the closure of its factory in the municipality of Itagüí and concentrated all its efforts on the one in Rionegro.

Posteriorly, In July 2021, it stopped its ‘non-woven’ line, arguing difficulties arising from the national strike, smuggling and the covid-19 pandemic.

During the first half of 2021, the traditional company had losses of 40,097 million pesos, a result of the continuation of its exercise during 2020, when it registered a net loss of 94,631 million prisoners. In addition, net sales in 2020 were 74,815 million pesos, which represented a drop of 47.27 percent compared to 2019.

In an article published by this medium in September 2021, the company indicated that it had some strategies to resume its operation in 2022. Among these, the sale of fixed assets and product inventory and the property rental offer are being analyzed. In addition, marketing strategies are analyzed with respect to the industry, customers, competitors and other market variables.
