Colruyt has been blowing hot and cold for several weeks. The supermarket chain has been making more announcements lately, and they are both positive and negative.

As we know, Colruyt surprised everyone yesterday Tuesday by announcing that it was selling off its 27 Dreambaby stores in favor of Supra Bazar. While there is still good news for customers despite this takeover, it is important to remember that Dreambaby employs 256 people.

Difficulties

With this decision, the brand hopes to overcome the difficulties it has been facing for some time. Often criticized for having developed too many secondary activities, the group therefore wants to refocus as evidenced by its new announcement of the day since Colruyt has announced that it wants to increase its market share in large cities from 20 to more than 30%.

And for this, the supermarket chain is banking on large cities for its future, by combining “Okay Compact” stores and the “Collect&Go walk-in” formula. The first are brands located in urban areas, allowing you to do your shopping on the go. Colruyt Group hopes to open six per year and sees the potential for around 100 of these branches across the country.

“The two formulas can strengthen each other”

The “Collect&GO walk-in” allows you to do your shopping online then collect them in store, with particular attention to customers who come to collect their purchases on foot, by bike or by scooter. “Approximately 40% of our customers combine collecting their weekly groceries at Collect&Go with a visit to an Okay Compact,” emphasizes Tom De Prater, head of Collect&Go. “It is clear that the two urban formulas can strengthen each other. »

Over the next ten years, Colruyt Group wants to expand primarily to Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent.

Des tests

For several months, Colruyt has not hesitated to change its habits by making large investments, particularly during checkout, by deploying a system of intelligent cameras to prevent its staff from having to use a scanner (a system which nevertheless shows its limits, see below), by testing new solutions like this intriguing intelligent supermarket shopping cart or by placing surprising products on its shelves.
