While it had been announced during an extraordinary works council in April that 192 jobs were threatened, the board of directors of Dreamland and Dreambaby decided, on May 26, to proceed with the collective dismissal of 151 employees in total, can be read in the Colruyt Group press release on the occasion of the communication of the group’s results for the financial year 2022-2023.
During the month of April, Colruyt announced a restructuring of its two chains Dreamland and Dreambaby, providing for the loss of 192 of the approximately 1,100 jobs in the chain of toy stores and the chain of baby equipment. One of the 48 Dreamland stores and five of the 32 Dreambaby branches will close. The restructuring goes hand in hand with the sale of 75% of Dreamland to the toy store chain ToyChamp.
In the meantime, the information and consultation phase provided for by the Renault law, which defines the procedure to be followed in the event of collective dismissal, has been completed. In its communication, Colruyt still speaks of 151 employees affected. “As a people-oriented employer, the Colruyt Group will make maximum efforts to refocus within the group in order to reduce the number of redundancies,” it reads.
A spokeswoman for the retailer explains that the drop in the number of redundancies is partly due to the fact that the employees concerned have already left the company or found another position within the group. Karen Van de Voorde, from the socialist trade union BBTK, also confirmed this information.
“We are still negotiating a social plan,” says Van de Voorde. “We hope to further reduce the number of layoffs. »
