As the temporary manager of the library, Aurelija Butkutė-Norkevičienė, said, this facade is one of the community projects “Your Idea” supported by the Klaipėda District Municipality. The authors of the initiative, who thought of decorating the facade of the library, received the support of the community, and the idea received funding.

“The original idea was a bit different. The idea was to depict a girl wrapped in a blanket, illuminated by a spotlight and reading a book. However, we decided that such an image would no longer correspond to today’s times. It was decided to portray the library as it is today: with innovation, where the library is no longer just books. Where children come to chat, meet friends, play,” said A. Butkutė-Norkevičienė.

The work was undertaken by artist Tadas Vincaitis from Kaunas, who has experience in painting on facades. His work also decorates the Gargždai sports center.
“I thought that this project would be completed in two weeks. However, we ran into some unexpected obstacles. The work lasted up to two months. We received support from the residents of Gargžda, sometimes they even served us coffee”, – the artist recalled the work.
The head of the library was also happy that this project did not receive criticism on social networks.
