Colorectal cancer: screening tests can be ordered online

A website is operational to order its colorectal cancer screening test online.

Little known, colorectal cancer and one of the most common, it affects men and women, most often following 50 years and causes 17,000 deaths each year in France.

A simple and free test

However, a simple and free screening test exists and allows it to be detected early.

Indeed, the majority of colorectal cancers develop from a polyp which degenerates into cancer, and it is indeed these possible polyps that it is possible to locate thanks to the screening test which detects the presence of blood invisible to the naked eye.

A third of screening only in Haute-Loire

In Haute-Loire, only 33.5% of the women and men invited take part in the screening, i.e. around 21,000 screening tests carried out. However, this test is simple, fast and free. This screening is offered every 2 years to women and men aged 50 to 74 with no symptoms or personal or family history.

At your doctor or online

People can get it by going to their doctor, or by ordering it on www.monkit.depistage-colorectal.fr

Then to carry out the test, everything is explained in the kit, but to summarize, it is enough to fill in the identification form, then thanks to a small rod, take a sample from the surface of the stool, close the tube then send it to the laboratory by post using the pre-stamped envelope provided. The laboratory will analyze the sample to identify any traces of blood invisible to the naked eye.

Negative in 95% of cases

In more than 95% of cases, the result will be negative, if it is positive, it does not necessarily mean that it is cancer, but it will be necessary to perform a colonoscopy to identify the cause of the bleeding . “In the Haute-Loire, out of approximately 21,000 screening tests, we identify between 75 and 85 cancers (the number of cancers detected is well below what we might detect with better participation in organized screening” develops Laurianne Turpin, public health officer.

Recovery in 9 out of 10 cases

“Organized screening brings hope since detected early, colorectal cancer is cured in 9 cases out of 10. We know today that with a participation in screening of 65%, we might avoid 6,600 deaths each year in France” , insists Laurianne Turpin.
