Its incidence, prevalence and mortality make colorectal cancer a real public health issue in France. Since 2009, colorectal cancer has been the subject of an organized screening program aimed, every two years, at women and men aged 50 to 74.
Carrying out this screening regularly is all the more important since this cancer often develops initially without any noticeable symptoms or signs. The earlier it is detected, the lighter the treatments and the better the chances of recovery.
Detected early, colorectal cancer is cured in 9 out of 10 cases.
INCREASING BUT NOT SUFFICIENT PARTICIPATION IN ORGANIZED SCREENING
In France, of the 17.6 million people eligible for the organized colorectal cancer screening program in 2020-2021, 34.6% took their test (2019-2020 28.8%)1 . Participation in organized screening for colorectal cancer is the highest since 2010. However, this rate is still below the European standard (45%).
Two-thirds of eligible people do not participate.
