The Colorado ruling bans Trump from participating in the primaries. He has to fight once morest more and more states. The end of Trump’s candidacy?

Denver – Donald Trump is angry regarding the Colorado Supreme Court ruling. There he was banned on Tuesday from appearing on the state’s ballot for the Republican primary on March 5, 2024. The ruling has now caused a wave of possible bans in other states and might have implications for the US presidential election.

The reason for the ban in Colorado was the alleged involvement in the storming of the US Capitol in 2021. Trump had given a speech that morning, as a result of which a number of people began an attempt to violently prevent the confirmation of Joe Biden’s election victory. The 14th Amendment to the Constitution, under which he was convicted in Colorado, makes Trump ineligible to hold federal or state office.

    Trump maintains his innocence

The 45th President of the United States continued to maintain that he had not been involved in any insurrection. He accused the court of election interference. His campaign spokesman Steven Cheung suggested in a speech that it was a “plot to interfere in an election on behalf of the dishonest Joe Biden.”

Cheung further stated that they would like to appeal the verdict. Next, the process would go to the US Supreme Court, where the Colorado ruling might still be overturned: There are six Republicans on the national supreme court, three of whom were appointed by Trump, and three Democrats.

Arizona, Minnesota and Michigan are safe as swing states for Trump

Republican presidential candidate John Castro filed a lawsuit once morest Trump in the important swing state of Arizona. Swing states are states that are traditionally volatile in terms of their vote and often decide elections. However, U.S. District Judge Douglas Rayes ruled that Castro had no standing to sue because he was not competing with Trump in the primary. Castro also had no success in Rhode Island.

Competition has often been fierce in Michigan, too, but the appeals court allowed Trump to take part in the primaries. They decided that the Republican Party had control of the candidacy, just as it did in Minnesota – a win for Trump.

Trump faces a challenge – more charges and verdicts expected

California Lieutenant Governor Elini Kounalakis urged Secretary of State Shirley Weber to “explore every legal option” regarding Trump, citing Colorado. She wrote, “California must be on the right side of history.”

In many states, the process has just begun or is still in full swing: In Michigan, the final ruling likely went to the state Supreme Court. In Maine they were still waiting for a verdict. There were additional lawsuits in: Alaska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Vermont and Virginia.
