This weekend the Ministry of Health called for a fourth mass vaccination day in Colombia, with the aim of promoting disease prevention and recovering the vaccination levels that existed before the covid-19 pandemic.
During the event, which took place in the Rumipamba Park, in the city of Pasto, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, said that the National Government is working with the pharmaceutical laboratory VECOL and the National Institute of Health to produce vaccines and not depend on global technologies.
The minister explained that if Colombia begins to produce its own vaccines, it will not have to depend on global technologies, nor will it be necessary to submit to the prices of biologicals. Additionally, he clarified that he is not anti-vaccines and on the contrary he considers that they “save lives.”
The initiative resulted in the administration of 88,626 vaccines throughout the national territory, including: 60,847 doses in boys and girls under 6 years of age; 3,953 in boys and girls vaccinated once morest the human papillomavirus (HPV); 19,044 people protected once morest seasonal influenza and 8,058 with bivalent vaccine once morest COVID-19.
Additionally, some citizens received more than one biological product to complete their vaccination schedules.
It should be noted that according to figures from the Minsalud, in the country there are more than 275,000 boys and girls with incomplete vaccination schedules. Furthermore, it is estimated that there are 169,000 pregnant women in the same situation.
