Colombian NGO: Available data from Venezuelan elections give González the victory

The Colombian NGO Electoral Observation Mission (MOE) reviewed the electoral records released by the Venezuelan opposition and indicated this Saturday that when comparing these data with those published in the second bulletin of the National Electoral Council (CNE), there is no possibility that President Nicolás Maduro was reelected.

The Mission stated in a statement that “when comparing the information that emerges from the database constructed by the MOE,” based on the minutes published by the opposition, with the data from the CNE, “the votes that remain to be counted in the missing minutes are not sufficient to alter” the result that gives “victory to candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.”

In its exercise, the organization pointed out that, after reviewing the data contained in 73.1% of the electoral records, González obtained 6,392,350 votes (67.2%), while Maduro obtained 2,891,553 ballots (30.4%).

“The second CNE bulletin, dated August 2, indicates a total of 12,335,883 votes cast with 96.87% of the minutes transmitted. According to the information contained in the database prepared by the MOE, with 73.1% of the total minutes of the election, a total of 9,515,322 votes were counted,” the organization detailed.

In this regard, he explained, “that 23.77% of the missing votes (corresponding to the difference between the 73.1% of the votes contained in the database and the 96.87% referred to in the second bulletin) contain a total of 2,871,377 missing votes.”

According to the MOE figures, the difference in votes between González and Maduro is 3,500,797 votes, a number that “is greater than the number of votes missing from the database, which, as noted, is 2,871,377 votes.”

“Thus, even if all the missing votes collected by the CNE were in favor of presidential candidate Nicolás Maduro, this would not be enough to surpass the votes of his opponent, since there would still be a difference of 629,420 votes in favor of candidate González,” the MOE stated.

According to the CNE, whose results are questioned by the opposition and a large part of the international community, Maduro obtained 51.95% of the votes, compared to 43.18% of support obtained by González Urrutia, with 96.87% of the votes counted, which the institution has not published to date.
