With a slow start to the last debate on the health reform project in the House of Representatives, finally around 7:50 pm the articles were approved to move on to the next phase: discussion in the Senate.
On Monday night, following failing to reach an agreement regarding article 42, the session was adjourned and scheduled for Tuesday. This article was left last for debate. After approving articles 122 and 123, eliminating article 128, and giving the green light to 143, article 42 was finally denied and the title and question were voted on.
With a total of 87 votes for yes and only 37 for no, the title and the question were approved, which means that the project will be debated in the Senate of the Republic.
The speaker coordinators of the project, Martha Alfonso and Alfredo Mondragón, celebrated the result. The president of the House of Representatives, Andrés Calle, said that it is a historic and hopeful day for Colombians.
“We have persevered and we have made agreements so that we truly have a health system that Colombians deserve, “The Senate is coming and we need a great popular mobilization to defend this reform.”said Mondragón, through a video he published on his X account.
The speaker Martha Alfonso assured that “we have achieved it with great difficulty, but we are delivering for the country and we hope that it will also be approved in the Senate.”
