Thailand is one of 54 nations in the world that accept the death penalty in theory and in practice. Of course, although it is allowed in Thai law, the actual application of the death penalty in the country is sporadic.

Most of those waiting are in Bang Khwang Central Prison, which contains the nation’s main death row, though not the only one.

According to a survey carried out by the Thai newspaper The Bangkok Post, in 2018, the vast majority of those surveyed, 92.49%, agreed to maintain the death penalty in the legislation, while only 7, 51% disagreed.

In Thailand, the death penalty is exposed by many political leaders as a necessary measure to maintain peace and order in the face of serious crimes, several of the people sentenced to death in the country are responding for crimes related to drug trafficking .

According to various international media, the last time the death penalty was carried out in Thailand was in 2018. A curious fact regarding this type of situation is that the authorities of that country only inform the person who will be executed, three hours before the process is carried out.

It is important to note that once a person is sentenced to death, they have the possibility of appealing the decision, which can cause the process to be lengthened and, in some cases, the sentence to be changed to life imprisonment. In addition, you also have the possibility of requesting a pardon from the king of that country in order to save his life and receive another type of punishment.

In addition to Thailand, other countries that maintain the death penalty are Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, the United States, and Iraq, among others.
