However, it was one of the sectors hardest hit by the pandemic as entry to theaters was restricted due to the then increase in covid cases, also affecting the employment of thousands of people. However, over the years, its reactivation has been increasing and by 2022, there were more than 37 million of people who attended different cinemas in the country. This figure meant an increase of 47% compared to 2021. Which would show that people are still looking to enjoy their favorite feature films on the big screen.
In fact, the most important film franchises in Colombia, have contributed to economic advancement, lowering the price of their tickets by an average of 3.4%.

However, this Friday, it was learned that following 20 years of operation it turns off its projectors. This was announced through a statement: “On May 1 we will have our last performances at this venue, which undoubtedly became a milestone for Bogotá and for independent cinema.”
Regarding the reason for his departure, they did not provide any further explanation. But they did thank all the attendees and directors for their contribution to art. “We want to thank this time when we were happy (…) for appreciating cinema as fine dining. For believing that culture is above everything.
In the statement, Cinema Paraíso announced that apparently they would not leave completely, as “Soon we will give you news regarding our new project. This will be the beginning of a new future.”
