Two brothers who planned the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci and paid the hitman who shot him on a beach in Colombia in 2022 were sentenced by a judge in Cartagena (northern Colombia) this Wednesday (05.03.2023) to 25 years and six months from prison “for his participation in the planning, financing and logistics of the prosecutor’s crime.”
The attorney for the Pecci family, lawyer Francisco Bernate, confirmed on social networks that the sentence against the brothers Andrés and Ramón Pérez Hoyos was issued by the Fourth Court of Cartagena de Indias and that “the decision was not appealed.” In January, both accepted their participation in the organization of the crime of the well-known prosecutor against drug trafficking and terrorism.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the Pérez Hoyos paid some $340,000 to the gunman who opened fire on Pecci on the island of Barú, near the Caribbean city, on May 10 of last year. Pecci, 45, was enjoying his honeymoon with his pregnant wife, the Paraguayan journalist Claudia Aguilera. The brothers were captured on January 15 in Bogotá and confessed to the prosecution their participation in the crime.
