China is the leading importer of frozen beef in the world, with a global market share of 43%.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jhenifer Mojica, announced that the first shipment of beef to the People’s Republic of China will be in the first half of 2024. In addition, she explained the steps that remain to complete the process.

In this process, the health protocol has already been approved. The Chinese authorities dispensed with the visit to Colombia to proceed with the signing of the protocol. By skipping this step, the remaining procedures are speeded up:

Formalization of the export zoosanitary certificate. Registration with Invima by exporting companies that wish to participate in this trade with the Asian giant.

What is the zoosanitary certificate?

This is the document that covers shipments of this product for export. The certificate model is being worked on jointly by ICA and Invima to present a proposal to the General Administration of Customs of China.

The Colombian government will support companies that have decided to carry out these procedures, which is why the Ministry agreed with the phytosanitary authorities of China on permanent coordination so that the registration is done as quickly as possible.

“The first exports would occur in the first quarter of next year,” said the head of the portfolio. And she highlighted the coordinated work between MinComercio, ICA, Invima, ProColombia and the Foreign Ministry to conquer this market.

For his part, Juan Fernando Roa, general manager of the ICA, explained that “the protocol that has already been approved is regarding to be sent so that there can be a joint formalization. After that comes the formalization of the zoosanitary certificates that carry the approval of the veterinarians for the departure of the shipments.”

Reaching this Chinese market is strategic for Colombia because it will delight in Colombian beef just as it does today in Russia, Chile, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Curacao, Qatar, Jordan and Turkey, among others. said the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Germán Umaña Mendoza.
