Documentation for Venezuelan migrants in Colombia

Colombian Immigration officials have expressed on several occasions the importance of migrants attending service fairs and documentation days to process their status in that country.

With the PPT, Venezuelans will be able to access health services, education, banking services, employability, and the Identification System of Potential Beneficiaries of Social Programs (Sisben) for up to 10 years.

Furthermore, the Colombian authorities have insisted on the processing of PPT, both for minors and adults, in order to keep a detailed record of the number of Venezuelans entering Colombia.

That is why Migración Colombia constantly carries out processing sessions for this document and offers talks online through the organization’s Facebook and YouTube accounts.

Why is PPT important?

The Colombian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly called on Venezuelan migrants to adhere to the PPT processing so that they can have free transit within Colombian territory.

It is necessary for the country (Colombia) to implement this measure taking into account the current situation in Venezuela, which seems to get worse every day,” the Colombian organization stated in 2021.

The Foreign Ministry indicated at that time that this procedure would be aimed at Venezuelans who are in that country on a regular basis, either because they have an entry permit, because they made an extension of stay or because they have the Special Permanence Permit (PEP). ).

In relation to the official figures offered by Migración Colombia, until December 2022, 2.48 million Venezuelans entered that country; while the Interagency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants of Venezuela (R4V) reported in June of this year that the number is 2.86 million, of the more than 7.7 million Venezuelans who have migrated. This makes Colombia the territory with the largest flow of Venezuelans outside of Venezuela.
