Very early Ecuador opened the scoring. At minute 8 ‘Enner Valencia won the duel against the Colombian defenders and finished with his left foot to make it 1-0.

The ‘Tri’ was the owner of the ball in the first minutes. While Colombia tried to find parity but the sticks, the goalkeeper Galindez and even the anxiety of the forwards did not allow it.

At minute 29 ‘James Rodríguez raised a cross for Jhon Córdoba who lost speed, got tangled and lost the chance alone in front of Galindez’s goal.

Lucho Díaz appeared at times, the clearest in the 41st minute when he crashed it against the post.

Córdoba again at minute 46 ‘fought a ball and finished it off but Galindez appeared to prevent it. Just before going to half-time, Richard Ríos scored with his left foot but went over the goal. Ecuador finished with one man less, Piero Hincapié was sent off.

For the second half the game was tangled for Colombia. Néstor Lorenzo tried to give clarity with the entry of Juan Fernando Quintero and Jhon Jáder Durán.

The 14th of the National Team tried it with a header (min 67′), then with a mid-distance shot (70′).

James also appeared after a corner kick that Quintero raised. The captain’s header was deflected over the Ecuadorian goal.

It was not a good game for the ‘Cafeteros’, who although they generated, did not manage to break down the Ecuadorian defense.

Colombia did not find the formula to rescue at least one point and scored zero in the double round of South American qualifiers.

Two consecutive defeats, against Uruguay and Ecuador, cost them positions in the classification table. Colombia is partially fourth with 19 points and Ecuador with the same units but due to goal difference it rose to third place.

The ‘Tricolor’ will play in March against Brazil and Paraguay, a new qualifying date.

How can Colombia improve their ⁣mental resilience ⁤and finishing skills ahead of the next World Cup qualifying matches?

⁢**Interview with⁣ Sports Analyst Juan Carlos Méndez on Colombia’s‌ Performance in the South American Qualifiers**

**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Juan Carlos. Colombia’s performance in the recent double date of the South American Qualifiers didn’t go as⁣ planned, leading to‌ a postponement in their bid for the 2026 World⁤ Cup. What are your thoughts on the match against⁢ Ecuador?

**Juan Carlos Méndez:** Thank you for having me. It was a disappointing match ⁤for Colombia. They conceded⁣ an early goal from Enner Valencia, which set the tone for the game. The team ‌struggled to ⁤recover and didn’t capitalize on several scoring opportunities.

**Interviewer:** It seems like Colombia had a few chances to equalize, especially with Jhon Córdoba’s missed opportunity. What do ‍you‌ think went wrong there?

**Juan Carlos Méndez:** Córdoba’s chance was pivotal. He was in front of the goal but failed to convert, which is a critical moment in‍ high-stakes games⁤ like this. It reflected a broader issue with the team’s finishing; they had the chances, but the anxiety seemed to get the best of them.

**Interviewer:** In addition to Córdoba, Lucho Díaz had a promising moment when he hit the‌ post. What does that tell you about the team’s performance?

**Juan Carlos Méndez:** Hitting the post ⁣shows that they were somewhat close to‍ scoring, but it’s also a symbol of their overall frustration. Díaz is a key player, and while he created opportunities, the lack of composure in the final third was evident throughout the match.

**Interviewer:** Given this result, what do you⁣ think ⁣Colombia needs to focus on going forward to improve their ‌chances for World Cup ‍qualification?

**Juan Carlos Méndez:** They need to work on‍ their mental resilience and finishing under pressure. Training should involve ⁢not just physical drills⁤ but also mental exercises to help players deal with the anxiety ⁢of must-win⁢ games.‍ Building chemistry among players ‍is essential,⁣ especially as we move closer to crucial matches.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, Juan ⁣Carlos, for your insights. ‌It’s clear that the Colombian team has challenges ahead,⁢ and fans will be watching closely‍ as they aim to secure their spot in the next World Cup.

**Juan Carlos Méndez:** Absolutely. It’s a long road ahead, ‌and the support of the fans will be vital for the team’s morale as they prepare for the next qualifier matches. Thanks for having me!
