A 62-year-old man was taken into police custody on Sunday in Colmar for “attempted voluntary homicide”. This following shooting with a rifle while drunk at a 22-year-old soldier whose vital prognosis is engaged, said the prosecution.
The tragedy occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday. “Apparently overwhelmed by the noise of a group of people (…) in front of his home”, the sexagenarian went out “armed with a gun”, indicated in a press release the public prosecutor, Catherine Sorita- Minard.
“A shot was fired and a 22-year-old military woman was seriously injured. Operated (Sunday) morning, his vital prognosis is still engaged”, according to the magistrate.
The man, “under the influence of alcohol, was arrested on the spot and placed in police custody. He had minor injuries and was seen by a doctor during the night,” continues Ms. Sorita-Minard. He has no criminal record.
Gathered in a square
According to the regional daily L’Alsace, he was beaten by relatives of the victim, several of whom are soldiers. They had gathered in a square near his home to celebrate a birthday.
They would have tried to withdraw his weapon and the shot would then have gone off, indicates the newspaper, according to which the victim serves in the Chadian marching regiment (RMT) of Meyenheim (Haut-Rhin), south of Colmar. A criminal investigation in the act of attempted murder has been entrusted to the Colmar police, according to Ms. Sorita-Minard, who specifies that the police custody must be extended.
