American aerospace supplier Collins Aerospace has purchased a second NXG XII 600 metal pinter from Nikon SLM Solutions. The facility in Iowa where the machine is installed produces, among other things, nozzles for aircraft engines of both civil and military aircraft.
Collins Aerospace’s Additive Manufacturing Center in West Des Moines opened just last year, following a total investment of $14 million. The company’s first NXG XII 600 is located there.
One of nine
Collins Aerospace is one of nine U.S. companies to receive the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) certification for Additive Manufacturing. With the new AM system, the supplier can increase production and material supply to customers.
Why 3D metal printing
“Additive manufacturing has the potential to help us reduce weight, complexity, lead time and costs in the parts we supply, and this expansion is an investment in our business to deliver these benefits to our customers.” said Renee Begley, location manager in West Des Moines for Collins Aerospace at the opening of the new AM center building last summer. The NXG XII 600 has a construction volume of 600 by 600 by 600 mm and has 20 lasers.
Collins Aerospace is part of RTX, the world’s largest aerospace and defense group with approximately 80,000 employees.
Nikon SLM Solutions is one of the participants in March Additive Manufacturing theme square at the TechniShow. Gibas Numeriek, the representative in the Benelux, will then show, among other things, parts that have been printed on the NXG XII 600.
