College students visit hotel in Cancun and end up hospitalized

MEXICO CITY.— Two young college students from Oklahoma reported that were potentially drugged in a hotel in Cancun.

Zara Don Hull and Jake Snideralong with other friends, traveled to Cancun last Thursday. “We had just spent a day at the pool,” said Zara Hull, who claimed that her trip turned into a nightmare and now owes thousands of dollars in medical treatment.

She and her friend Kaylie Pitzer visited the pool bar. “We both ordered water and within two minutes, Jake had turned around and we both fell on the bar.with their heads down at the same time,” Zara told CBS News.

“I’m telling you, I’ve never felt like this in my life. I was so heavy that I couldn’t lift my head or anything. Suddenly, I started having seizures“, he added.

They demand thousands of dollars for medical care

Jake Snider took her to a private hospital and stayed by her side as staff reportedly demanded thousands of dollars for treatment.

Kaylie recalled being wheeled back to their rooms in wheelchairs, according to CBS affiliate KWTV. “We couldn’t walk, we couldn’t talk, we couldn’t do anything,” Kaylie said, explaining that she woke up in bad shape the next morning.

“It hurt to open my eyes, I was very nauseous, I couldn’t move,” she recalled.

He later found out that Zara was sent to a hospital overnight. They were asking for $10,000 to consider me. “They had raised the amount they wanted. The minimum was $10,000 for me to be considered,” Zara said. They had me captive. We are university students and we don’t have the money that they ask of us.”

Meanwhile, she suffered seizures throughout the night and doctors intubated her. “The hospital was not treating her, they were injecting her with a lot of drugs to keep her sedated,” Jake’s mother, Stephanie Snider, wrote on Facebook.

They intubated her and told Jake it was for the MRI.There was no reason to sedate her, and much less to intubate her“We knew we had to bring her back to the United States.”

But hospital staff demanded even more money to free her, and the air ambulance to bring Zara back to the United States cost 26 thousand dollars.

Zara remains in hospital as doctors continue to work to determine what may have happened to her.
