- Different organizations such as churches, schools, companies and even political parties made their spaces available to receive donations and urged the population to send basic necessities to assist those affected by the heavy rains in Cumanacoa.
The impact of Hurricane Beryl’s passage through the Venezuelan Caribbean Sea left severe damage on the eastern coasts, especially in the state of Sucre. There, the population of Cumanacoa, Montes municipality, was affected by the heavy rains that caused an overflow of the Manzanares Riverwith a balance so far of two people dead and five missing, as well as hundreds of evacuated and homes damaged.
The Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Remigio Ceballos, reported that teams of firefighters, Civil Protection and security forces were deployed in the affected areas, where medical care for the injured has already begun, as well as the distribution of food and water for those affected. However, several initiatives have also emerged from civil society to collect aid that will be sent to the victims.
The vast majority of the collection centers created by different organizations and institutions are in Cumaná, the capital of Sucre and close to the disaster zone. Various initiatives have been organized there that can receive donations from other cities in the country. Among the most requested supplies are bottled water, non-perishable foods, medicines, hygiene products, baby formula, blankets and mats, clothing and footwear.
Iglesias
The Archbishop of Cumaná, Monsignor Jesús González de Zárate, reported that different churches throughout the state will be receiving donations that will be delivered to those affected. These collection centers will be specifically in the Cathedral of Cumaná, the Minor Basilica of Santa Inés and the Santa Rosa de Lima dining room, as well as in the parishes of Santa Ana (Caigüire), Santa María de la Esperanza (La Llanada) and Virgen del Valle (Perimetral Avenue).
For its part, the humanitarian organization Cáritas reported that it will also operate as a collection center at its headquarters in Cumaná, located on Sarmiento Street.
Outside of Sucre state, all the parishes in Ciudad Guayana, in Bolívar, began collecting donations, according to the city’s bishop, Monsignor Carlos Cabezas. Monsignor José Manuel Romero, bishop of El Tigre, made a similar announcement for all the churches in the south of Anzoátegui state.
Guilds and organizations
The Cumaná Chamber of Commerce, located on Universidad Avenue in the capital of Sucre, requested donations of mattresses, clothing and shoes for the victims. The Sucre branch of the Federation of Chambers and Companies of Venezuela (Fedeindustria), in the Marina Plaza shopping center, also joined the call.
Rotary Venezuela announced that all its centers in the country will serve as collection centers to send aid to its branch in Cumaná. In the case of Caracas, two collection centers were set up in the Santa Eduvigis neighborhood, at Quinta Virgen Milagrosa #13; and in the Terrazas del Club Hípico neighborhood, at Quinta Los Robiro on Las República Avenue.
Other collection centers will be at the Syrian-Venezuelan Arab Center of Cumaná, in front of the Minerva Hotel on Avenida Perimetral; the Public Accountants Association of Sucre, in Plaza Cruz de Chiclana; and the Bar Association, on Bolívar Street. The clown organization of the Doctor Sonrisa hospital also receives donations on El Mangle Street in the El Bosque de Cumaná housing estate.
Schools and companies
Likewise, different institutions and businessmen in the region have set up their spaces as collection centers. One of them is the Instituto Libertador Educational Unit, in Cumaná, which will receive donations until July 4 on 66th Street in Los Silos. Also the Colegio Padre Alcalá, on the Cumaná-Cumanacoa highway.
The construction company JM Inversión Segura posted on its social media that it will receive supplies at its headquarters on Calle 1 in the Ciudad Jardín urbanization (Cumaná). Specifically, they asked volunteers to bring mats, medicines, blankets, baby food, clothing, footwear and non-perishable food. The Remax real estate agency also joined as collection centers, in its branch on Avenida Santa Rosa in Cumaná; or the Pollos Oriente butcher shop, on the Cumaná-Cumanacoa highway.
Sucre residents also organized their own donation collection days. One example was the community of Los Mangles, who set up a collection center in an apartment in Block 4 to gather food, clothing and kitchen utensils.
Parties
The presidential candidate of the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González, expressed his solidarity with those affected by the floods in the Montes municipality, and called on Venezuelans to collaborate with any possible help. Likewise, the opposition leader María Corina Machado reported that donations will be collected from the Comando con Venezuela.
“I ask all Venezuelans to demonstrate once once more that we are supportive and generous. Let us help the people of Sucre in these difficult times,” he wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).

The collection center was set up at the headquarters of the command in Sucre, on Humboldt Avenue in Cumaná, in front of the Corazón de Jesús school. For its part, the Vente Venezuela movement indicated that several commanders began collecting food, water and medicines to take to this center. Likewise at the headquarters of the command in the College of Physicians of Monagas, in the Juanico sector of Maturín.
Other parties such as Democratic Action (the faction de jure) also receive clothing and food at their headquarters on Blanco Fombona Street in Cumaná. The same goes for the Un Nuevo Tiempo party, in the Patio Andaluz shopping centre, opposite the Félix Velásquez Sports Centre.
On the government side, the Movement for Peace and Life set up collection centers at the Mission Bases located in Cumaná and Carúpano, as well as in the states of Anzoátegui, Monagas and Nueva Esparta.
