Collecting $ 155 million .. “Barbie” movie achieves record revenue in its opening show

LOS ANGELES (Archyde.com) – “Barbie” distributor Warner Bros. said on Sunday that the new movie starring Margot Robbie as the iconic doll hit theaters in its opening weekend.

The company added that the film collected approximately 155 million, setting a record in the list of the highest-grossing films in the opening show in the United States in 2023.

Christopher Nolan’s film “Oppenheimer”, which revolves around the creation of the atomic bomb, also achieved revenues that exceeded expectations after collecting $ 80.5 million in local theaters.

The revenue provided a huge boost to studios and theaters that have been suffering from a disappointing summer so far. Ticket sales are down from last year, despite more films being released in cinemas.

Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, revolves around the doll that first appeared 60 years ago. The film’s revenues surpassed that of (The Super Mario Brothers) “The Super Mario Brothers” in April, amounting to $146.4 million.

As for “Oppenheimer”, in which Cillian Murphy plays the role of the American scientist Robert Oppenheimer, the developer of the atomic bomb, he won encouraging critical reviews, and is expected to be a contender in the next Academy Awards race.

Universal Pictures, the film’s distributor, reported that it grossed $93.7 million in international markets, bringing its worldwide total to $174.2 million.
