A Peruvian nurse was sexually raped and mutilated in her private parts, allegedly by two co-workers at a social security health center in southern Peru.
The attack occurred the same week as another case was known in the Amazon in which an 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and was later found wounded with two 16-centimeter nails in her skull.
Both violations have shocked Peru. The nurse and the 11-year-old girl are hovering between life and death and are in intensive care units, authorities said Friday.
Peru’s Social Security confirmed on Friday that the 32-year-old nurse and mother of three minors suffered the rape the day before.
The police arrested the two suspects, an administrative employee and a guard at the Social Security health center in the city of Ayaviri. Both are being preliminarily investigated for the crimes of rape and attempted femicide.
Silverio Quispe, the victim’s uncle, told the local radio station Exitosa that the nurse was the only support for his three small children, aged six years, four years and eight months. He indicated that the doctors reported a “perineal injury.”
“They cut her vagina down to the bones, up to the anus, the large intestine is compromised,” he said.
He added that the detainees tested positive for the luminol reagent, which allows the location and search for blood. The nurse was found in a pool of blood at the home of one of the colleagues.
The nurse’s uncle said they have not received support from the authorities. “She has sacrificed herself in the time of the covid, abandoning her children, she is now abandoned. Isn’t she good for society?” he stated.
The case of the nurse and the 11-year-old girl, known in the same week, once again showed Peru violence against women and the recurring crimes of rape.
According to figures from the Ministry for Women, in 2022 there were 27,362 cases of sexual violence, 137 femicides and 111 attempted femicide.
