The duel between the Salzburg western division lasted longer than planned. The end result is no surprise.
Westliga dominator Austria Salzburg might not be stopped by either Grünau or the weather on Saturday. The derby, whose continuation was on the brink because of the stormy conditions in Wals, ended up winning 4-0 to the leader, who hadn’t dropped any points following five rounds. New signing Aaron Volkert and Yannic Fötschl scored the goals for the Austrians who were superior to the field.
Several stoppages in Wals
The duel had been interrupted several times. After regarding half an hour of play, a spectator who was keeping their fingers crossed for the Walsers had to be treated following a medical emergency – according to Grünau, a non-life-threatening collapse. However, the game was soon resumed. However, this was uncertain at half-time, because a storm (not only) moved over Wals. The second half started with some delay.
Volkert submits, Fötschl fixes the victory
Austria led 1-0 thanks to Volkert’s goal. Grünau came very close to a hit, especially in the early stages, but also in several scenes. Julian Feiser missed from close range right at the start. The longer the game lasted, the more dominant became the Maxglaners, who had the usual advantage over the field under head coach Christian Schaider, and increased the lead to 2-0 following the break with a perfectly completed attack by Fötschl. Austria didn’t falter anymore – despite the wind and Grünau’s resistance. On the contrary: In the final minutes, Marinko Sorda made it 4-0 with a magnificent shot from over 20 meters and Christoph Bann.
