At Colíma in the Utrechtsestraat you really feel like you are in Mexico. No Tex-Mex here, but the authentic flavors of Mexico. With a menu full of surprising tortillas, other dishes and creative cocktails, Colíma offers a wonderful Mexican experience, right in the heart of Amsterdam. We will tell you more about our successful visit!
Colíma’s roots can be found in Mexico City
Bart, one of the co-owners and host, enthusiastically told us about the origins of Colíma. Colíma starts with chef Miguel Martin Gomez and his love for Mexico, especially Colíma Street in Mexico City, after which the restaurant is named. On Colíma’s menu you will find innovative Mexican dishes with a Mediterranean twist. Take, for example, the baby scallops with poblano chili sauce or ‘huitlachoce’ – a corn truffle. What really makes Colíma special is their attention to sourcing authentic ingredients. For example, Bart indicated that numerous special ingredients and agave spirits all come directly from Mexico.

All delicious dishes
After looking at the menu we were immediately excited to try the dishes. We chose a number of different dishes, all of which were very tasty. Our absolute favorite was the ‘Tostadas de steak tartare ahumado’, Bavette steak tartare on a crispy tostada, with smoked bone marrow, jalapeño and lime. The ‘Ceviche de gamba roja con leche de tigre de zanahoria’ is also a winner. This ceviche of red prawn with carrot and habanero pepper came with an incredibly tasty tomato sauce, with tomberry that pops in your mouth for a true sensation. We also enjoyed blue corn tortilla quesdilla with homemade salsa verde, tacos with crunchy chicken and tacos with beef.

A variety of creative drinks with a Mexican twist
Colíma’s drinks menu is also definitely worth exploring! This offers an extensive selection of Mexican beers, Mezcals (no fewer than 43 types!), Tequilas and accompanying cocktails. From an abundance of choices, we opted for the ‘Cucupeño Margarita’, which brought a good balance of spices with cucumber, jalapeño and dill. In addition, the ‘revolution sour’ is also highly recommended, with Mexican whiskey, liqueur made from corn and homemade mole.

Colíma is perfect for a fun night out with delicious Mexican food and creative matching drinks. Colíma is also very suitable for a drink or a tasty lunch with chilaquiles as a lunch special. An absolute asset to Amsterdam!
