Coldplay in Vienna: The most important tips for attending the concert

With hits like “Viva La Vida”, “Paradise” and “My Universe”, the band Coldplay will make the stadium shake. After the three cancelled concerts by singer Taylor Swift last week, increased security measures are in place in Vienna’s Prater. Visitors should allow a little more time, as there will be more checks. The police are ensuring security on site with dogs, drones and support from WEGA.

There will be restricted areas around the stadium. For example, on the Prater Hauptallee, there will be gates for vehicles entering the stadium, and police checks must be expected. Access to the stadium parking lots will only be possible for authorized persons. Pedestrians and motorists must also be prepared for temporary closures. These will primarily affect Meiereistrasse (between Vorgartenstrasse and Pierre-de-Coubertain-Platz) and Stadionallee (between Lusthausstrasse and the stadium). Driving through the Prater is prohibited on weekends anyway.

Travel by public transport recommended

If you don’t want to use your car, the best way to get there is by public transport. The concert ticket is valid as a ticket for the Wiener Linien. The U2 takes visitors directly to the stadium from the station of the same name. From 3 p.m. onwards, it runs every three minutes. To get all guests home again, the purple line runs every two minutes after the concert and even runs an hour longer on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

The 11A bus also runs at shorter intervals. If the weather is good and concertgoers are not stressed, they can alternatively take the U3 to Schlachthausgasse station. After a 30-minute walk through the green Prater, you can get to the stadium from there.

Doors open for the concert at 5 p.m. Support act OSKA will be on stage at 6:30 p.m., followed by support act Maggie Rogers at 7:15 p.m. before Coldplay themselves take the stage at 8:30 p.m.

Backpacks are generally prohibited in the stadium. Bags must not be larger than a DIN A4 sheet of paper. Drinks in cans or bottles are prohibited, and umbrellas may not be taken into the stadium. Large cameras, video cameras, selfie sticks or large power banks (more than twice the size of a regular cell phone) are also not permitted. Gifts for the artists or posters larger than A3 may not be taken. Concertgoers should also carry cash with them, as food stands do not accept card payments.
