Colby Covington defeated Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-44, 50-45) in the main event of the UFC 272 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Very cerebral combat from Covington, who knew that his virtues were greater than those of his opponent and capitalized on it. In wrestling, thanks to his takedowns, he clearly dominated.
Masvidal was brave, but only in the fourth round, following a crochet, did he have a real chance of victory. Entertaining fight, but clear one of the two sides.
Colby Covington beat his former friend Jorge Masvidal in the main match of the Ultimate Fighting Championship 272, following an intense four-round duel full of intensity, marked by the rivalry that both began a few months ago, following Colby accused Masvidal of not honor debts with their coaches.
The American unanimously defeated Masvidal, obtaining the following scores from the judges: 49-46, 50-44 and 50-45. Covington dominated the contest thanks to his constant takedowns and submission locks.
The 37-year-old fighter dazzled with his impressive triumphs over Darren Till in London and Ben Askren, in addition to his controversial statements.
It should be noted that Masvidal was retired for a time, during 2018, from the UFC fights to participate in competition programs, however, he returned with outstanding success.
On the side of Colby Covington, the fighter is in the hunt for the interim middleweight title. In his last fights, Covington racked up three wins over Damian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos (interim title) and Robbie Lawler.
However, he lost to Usman in the next fight. A win over former champion Tyron Woodley earned him one more shot at Woodley; but he would fall once more, in his quest to conquer the belt.
After both fell to the champion Kamaru Usman, now Masvidal and Covington will meet face to face in the steel cage, in a match that has attracted great attention among fans of mixed martial arts. The meeting between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington will take place this Saturday, March 5 at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
