Porto Alegre (RS) will host, for the first time, the Brazilian Coffee in Good Spirits Championship, a competition held by the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA) that certifies the skills of baristas in preparing alcoholic coffee drinks. From March 1st to 3rd, at Shopping Total, competitors will put their “mixologist” techniques to the test to prepare their best drinks by mixing coffee and alcohol. The national champion will represent Brazil in the category’s world championship, which will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, between June 27th and 29th this year.

Known as Coffee in Good Spirits, an unprecedented event in the city moves the specialty coffee scene and brings professionals from different parts of the country to the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, with free entry and open to the public

The Championship works as follows: each competitor has 10 minutes to present recipes for alcoholic drinks, hot and cold, with coffee. The competitions start in the followingnoon, at 2pm on the three days, and the grand final, with the six best competitors, will take place on Sunday, the day on which, at 7pm, the new Brazilian Coffee in Good Spirits champion will be revealed.

“Holding the championship in Porto Alegre comes from the idea, created last year, of national competitions traveling throughout Brazil to present local consumers with more information regarding specialty coffee and professional baristas. The Coffee in Good Spirits category is very visual and surprising, with captivating drinks, which show the public different options that include coffee in the recipe”, reveals Vinicius Estrela, executive director of BSCA.

Free event

The event, free of charge, will have the space open to the public from 10am on three days, allowing visitors to also discover the latest developments from the brands present in the space. The 2024 Brazilian Coffee in Good Spirits Championship is sponsored by Nescafé and Naveia, supported by Achega Café and Café do Mercado and will have official equipment provided by GranCoffee and Bunn. The hosts will be Emovere and Café Porto Farrô.
