World number six Coco Gauff has ended her partnership with coach Brad Gilbert, two weeks after a disappointing US Open.

The 20-year-old won her first Grand Slam title in New York last year under Gilbert’s guidance.

However, she was eliminated in the fourth round of this year’s US Open after being defeated by fellow American, Emma Navarro.

“Coco, at just 20 years old, your future is very bright. I wish you every success in the future,” tweeted Gilbert, who is the former coach of Andre Agassi, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick at X.

“I can’t wait to start a new chapter in my coaching career,” he continued.

Gauff signed Gilbert to work with Spanish coach Pere Riba after her first-round exit at Wimbledon last year.

Gilbert’s arrival saw Gauff win 18 of her next 19 matches, leading to titles in Washington, Cincinnati and New York.

Riba stepped down in November leaving Gilbert as Gauff’s sole coach.

Gauff has yet to reach a final this year after retaining her title in Auckland in January.

After reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open and French Open, Gauff was eliminated in the fourth round at Wimbledon and the US Open. (bbc/Z-1)
