This Tuesday followingnoon, traders on Avenue de Philippeville in Marcinelle, arrested and disturbed by a pungent smell in the neighborhood, alerted the firefighters.
Arrived on the scene, the latter found that the smell came from a hangar whose access was impossible. The firefighters in turn alerted the police. When the latter took over the premises, it was a cocaine manufacturing laboratory that was discovered in the hangar, the smell being generated by the production of drugs and the solvents necessary for the preparation.
Four people, of foreign origin and illegally residing in the territory, were arrested and deprived of their freedom while they were busy producing white powder. “The oldest suspect was born in 1972. The other people arrested are between 26 and 46 years old”said the prosecution this Wednesday morning.
A possible association
Given the number of workers in the warehouse, but also the quantities of cocaine discovered and the equipment seized, this might be a significant cocaine manufacturing activity as part of a criminal conspiracy.
As of this writing, the location is still being dismantled and the precise amount of cocaine present there is unknown.
The four suspects arrested must be heard today. The Federal Judicial Police (PJF) is in charge of the investigation.
