Coastrunner EV, an electric beach car to replace the Citroën e-Mehari

After the famous Roadyacht, the Dutch team of Savage Rivale is changing course. Still in the open, but we go from a V8 supercar to an electric beach car…

The design studio Savage Rivale is mainly specialized in luxury villas or yachts. Their first automotive adventure remains memorable. The Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS intended to combine supercar performance with a Chevrolet Corvette V8, 4 seats for a family adventure, 4 scissor doors for easier access than a coupe, but spectacular, all in the open, but with a retractable hard and glazed roof. A sort of rolling concept car, barely 5 copies of which are being produced, and the production of an electric version is envisaged in Japan at GLM.

The Dutch studio team is not giving up on its ambitions in the automotive sector and announced its new vehicle, the first rolling prototype of which has just been produced. The Coastrunner is an electric beach car, which does not seek at all to play the retro side often associated with this type of vehicle which has not really existed since the Mehari, Mini Moke or Fiat 500 Jolly. For little, one might easily imagine a small racy sedan on the same basis.

This Coastrunner conforms to the rules of this type of vehicle: fully open cabin not afraid of the elements, no doors… Of course, we forget the performance of a supercar with a 52 kW engine. But since the weight is only 800 kg, we should get by for rides along the coastal roads. The highway is not its destination, the speed is limited to 120 km/h and that shouldn’t bother anyone. The 20 kWh battery should allow a range of 180 km. Here too, it’s not much, but it’s not exactly the kind of car intended for long-distance trips.

Only problem, the price… Who says beach car does not necessarily say economical and the official photos set the tone. The 60-litre bar for storing bottles of champagne in the fridge is also a good clue. The price is indeed announced at 36,000 euros, excluding options… We should therefore see this Coastrunner more often in Saint-Tropez, Monaco, Ibiza or Marbella than in Zandvoort, Cap Blanc-Nez or Pointe Saint-Mathieu…
