Landings from coastal and artisanal fishing at the port of Tangier reached 5,014 tonnes in 2023, down 17% compared to the previous year, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

The market value of these catches fell by 12% to around 167.87 million dirhams (MDH), compared to more than 190.57 MDH in 2022, said the ONP in its latest report on statistics on coastal fishing and artisanal in Morocco.

By species, the quantities of pelagic fish landed in this port fell by 13% in 2023 to 3,532 T, for an estimated value of more than 70.56 MDH (-2%), compared to more than 71.84 MDH/4,070 tonnes. during the year 2022.

Landings of white fish also fell by 26% to 687 tonnes, for a value of 47.47 MDH (-4%), compared to more than 49.69 MDH/928 tonnes year-on-year.

Regarding the landings of cephalopods, they showed a drop of 52% to 409 tonnes for revenues of more than 24.80 MDH (-50%), while for crustaceans, landings increased by 68% to 386 tonnes. , generating revenues of more than 25.02 MDH (+32%).

At the national level, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 1,350,190 tonnes (T) in 2023, down 11% compared to a year earlier. In value, these landings increased by 3% to more than 9.98 billion dirhams.
