The funeral of the Namhae Coast Guard air crew members who died in a helicopter crash in Marado, Jeju Island will be strictly observed as the Chief of the Korea Coast Guard.
According to the Coast Guard on the 9th, a burial place was prepared at the Busan Citizens Funeral Home in the followingnoon of the same day for the late Vice Captain Jeong Doo-hwan (51), the late chief mechanic Chamo (42), and the late chief Hyeon-jun Hwang (28), who died by helicopter in an accident.
The Coast Guard upgraded the funeral from the chief of the Namhae Regional Maritime Police Agency to the chief of the Korea Coast Guard, and set the funeral period from the 10th to the 12th.
It is known that the Coast Guard will promote the three members of the crew to the first rank, and the funeral will be held at Gangseo Sports Park in Busan on the 12th, the last day of the funeral.
A joint incense burner will be prepared at the Busan Citizens Funeral Home, which is the burial place.
Earlier, at 1:32 am on the 8th, a helicopter belonging to the Namhae Coast Guard Air Corps (S-92) crashed in the sea regarding 370 km southwest of Marado, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju.
It happened just 30 to 40 seconds following taking off to return to Jeju International Airport following disembarking six Central Special Rescue crews from the Security Ship 3012 to search for the crew of the missing ship ‘Kyoto 1’ in the Taiwanese waters.
At that time, Captain Inspector Choi (47), Co-pilot Inspector Jeong Doo-hwan (51), mechanic Inspector Chamo (42), and ex-exploration Inspector General Hwang Hyeon-jun (28) were on the helicopter.
Fortunately, the captain, Inspector Choi, was rescued and transferred to the Jeju Halla Hospital Regional Trauma Center.
After that, the Coast Guard dispatched a navy diver and an underwater exploration equipment (WET-BELL) to the helicopter at around 11:09 a.m. on the same day and found the car commander hidden in the helicopter fuselage.
As a result, the number of casualties due to the accident increased to three and the number of injured to one.
