Coal stocks are declining, reporting energy crisis in the country; Center says no | Coal mine | Coal crisis | Power shortage

New Delhi: The country is facing an energy crisis as power consumption has increased in the summer and coal reserves in thermal power plants have declined. But central government sources said there was no possibility of a crisis in the country. According to a report released by the All India Power Engineers’ Federation (AIPEF), there is a severe shortage of coal in 81 of the country’s 150 coal mines.

Electricity consumption has increased as North India has been going through heavy heat. Accordingly, coal for power generation is not available. With this, many states are not getting enough power, the report said. The worst affected states are Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The federation points out that the shortage of coal in the country’s thermal power plants is a sign of the impending major power crisis.

However, the central government has said that there is no possibility of a fuel crisis in the country. Government sources said there was still a stockpile of coal for another 30 days. The country’s thermal power plants have 22 million tonnes of coal. The daily coal consumption is 2.1 million tonnes. The government says there is no cause for concern at present and that Coal India Ltd has 72.5 million tonnes of coal reserves.
