José Rodrigo Valdés Zertuche, who is a student at the Saltillo Unit Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Coahuila, obtained the “Coahuila Young Scientists 2022 Talent Award” in the Scientific Research category from 19 to 22 years old. which is promoted by the State Council of Science and Technology (COECyT) Coahuila.

The purpose of the Award is to recognize and promote young people who carry out research activities, technological development and social innovation, to promote scientific culture and communication of science linked to the COECyT, for scientific, technological, economic, environmental development and social of the state of Coahuila that contributes to the construction of the knowledge society and the solution of problems.

José Rodrigo Valdés Zertuche is in the eighth semester at the UAdeC Faculty of Medicine, Saltillo Unit, who also received an economic stimulus of 30,000 pesos, has participated and won in the Science and Engineering Fairs organized by the COECyT since 2015 In addition to the multiple awards it has received, it carries out research activities on preventive health issues with an impact on vulnerable populations.

The university student shared that science is something that caught his attention since he was a child and over the years he delved into the subject of health, for which he has focused on conducting research on preventive health issues and thus be able to Help people and improve their quality of life.

Likewise, he has sought out friends and colleagues to invite them to delve into the field of research, since he believes that it is through science and innovation that the lives of people who need it can be improved; He is currently working on determining pre-cancerous lesions on the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) before cancer forms, this by placing reagents in the cervix using acetic acid and lugol, to observe those areas where they might occur. color changes.

On the other hand, he commented that at the General Hospital of Saltillo he works to investigate the prevalence of a specific breast cancer that is triple negative, since it is the most aggressive and the tests that are carried out to determine a diagnosis frequently come out negative.

José Rodrigo Valdés Zertuche said he was very proud to receive this award and thanked friends and family for always supporting him in his career, likewise, he invited the university community to be interested in science and to undertake research that favors vulnerable population groups. .
