Coach Svědík retires after the season in Slovácko

“Although I still have a year left on my contract in Slovakia, I felt that the time was up. I appreciate what I experienced here and I also appreciate the fact that we and the club management agreed on my departure,” Svědík is quoted as saying on the club’s website.

“I made my decision after much consideration. I thought it was fair to tell Slovácko ahead of time so that the management could react and look for a new coach. I didn’t want to put the club under pressure and in trouble in this direction. It is important to mention that the decision to quit is not influenced by a third party, it is only between me and Slovácko,” added Svědík.

He has led Slovácko since the fall of 2018, and has written down his history in golden letters. The team under him won two fourth places in the Czech league, won the MOL Cup in May 2022 (3:1 win over Sparta) and subsequently qualified for the basic group of the Conference League.

This spring, however, there was a decline in results and performance, out of nine matches, Slovácko lost 7 times. The last straw for Svědík was Saturday’s defeat in Hradec Králové (0:1). “I am convinced that this moment can help me and the club. I spent six seasons in Slovácko, it was a beautiful period and unforgettable things: we won the domestic cup, we played in the Conference League. I will always like to come back here. After such a long time, it will be difficult to say goodbye, but I am ending it by saying that we are parting as friends,” declared Svědík.

Given his achievements so far, it is likely that he will not be out of work for long. It is speculated, for example, that he will take over Ostrava’s Baník from the summer. “I don’t know what will happen next. A new engagement or a break from training is offered, which I would use mainly towards my family, possibly for self-education and internships abroad,” added Svědík.
