INDONESIA is without a medal in the two badminton events Hong Kong Open and China Open that have just ended. The men’s singles sector that relies on Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is being evaluated.

PBSI men’s singles coach Irwansyah said that this was indeed the first and second tournament for Jonatan and Ginting after the Olympics. Although they have not reached the podium, the coach took the positive side.

“Although the results are not optimal, not yet champions, I as a coach am quite satisfied with their performance in the two tournaments yesterday,” said Irwansyah, Sunday (22/9).

In China Open, Jonatan entered the semifinals. The previous week in Hong Kong, the player who is called Jojo also appeared until the top four.

Meanwhile, Ginting advanced to the semifinals in Hong Kong while in the China Open he stopped in the quarterfinals. Irwansyah said the results of his players remained positive even though they were unable to win a medal.

“What I mean is, it’s not easy to restore their mental condition after what happened at the Olympics. However, in these two tournaments they have been very positive. Their spirit and motivation have returned, both on and off the field,” he said.

“Indeed, the game has not reached its best performance. There are still many who are hesitant to play, especially with the changing field conditions. This is what they have not been able to overcome, how to get out of pressure when in a difficult position,” he added.

The results in the China Open and Hong Kong Open, said Irwansyah, are capital for Jonatan and Ginting to face future tournaments. He is sure that in the future they will be even better in terms of performance and results. (Z-2)
