A year ago, in September, coach Lucas González was fired from the Atlético Nacional under-20 team. At that moment, González indicated that he left with the feeling of a job accomplished:

“Our cycle in National ended. We leave with the satisfaction of having done what they asked us to do, to train professional footballers. We also leave behind a national under-17 title, a runner-up finish in the Half World Cup and the team classified in the Youth Super Cup. It has been a great experience that has transformed us all, players and coaching staff. Thank you guys for giving us everything you had, we are going to miss you.”

Footballers such as Óscar Perea, Brahian Palacios, Jhon Solís, Juan Pablo “Tatay” Torres and Tomás Ángel, among others, passed through his hands, among others, who have been highlighted in the current process.

At Nacional they explained to him that he was not leaving because he was a bad professional, but because the institution wanted a change, and felt that they would not be able to make it with him.

Later, in December, physical trainer Carlos Tabares also left the club. While Alexis Henríquez was not taken into account to be part of the team performing other functions.

Today the three make up the América coaching staff and with the 4-1 win over Nacional it was a way to get rid of the thorn in the side of the green club.

“They were tough moments, but I knew what we might do… I knew what we might build… That’s why I feel great satisfaction,” González said at a press conference following Saturday’s victory.

While he was in the U-20 of the green team he always had the dream of being given the opportunity to direct the professional team, but that dream did not come true.
