Interview between Michael Kraus (Office) and Lennart Lingener (head coach)

The season opening will take place on Friday, August 23rd, 2024 at 4 p.m. in the Euregio sports hall in Emsdetten. During this, you will be conducting a public training session with cables. Have you ever done something like this before?

I have already done quite a lot of trainer training courses. And of course I like standing in front of a group, but I have never been wired up. I have done it with a microphone before, but being wired up is a new experience for me too!

Especially when you’re wired, everyone hears every word you say. Everyone hears everything you say. Do you think that’s a cool experience? Do you get a little nervous when the audience can hear every word you say?

No, I’m not nervous at all. I think it will be a great experience because it’s also a very special training session – our final training session before the cup match. That means the spectators get exclusive insights into our work. I think it will be very exciting. I’ll have to be a little more selective with my choice of words when there are things I don’t like.

So can it happen that one or two swear words are used during normal training?

I think the sport of handball is very emotional. And you also have that in training, where sometimes harsh words are used. But of course I will control myself on Friday! I think it will definitely be a great insight for the spectators. What we do here is our daily bread and I will not pretend.

So you won’t adapt the training to make it more entertaining for the viewer?

No, not at all! We will not be doing any event training because it is an important unit for us – the final training session before the cup match against Hamm! We want to give it our all this weekend so that the match is a success. That is why I believe that this is an absolutely exclusive and probably unique insight into our training work, including match preparation. Usually, this kind of thing always takes place behind closed doors, but we are happy to do it for our fans!

Do you think that public training has a positive or negative influence on the team? Or is it completely independent?

To be honest, I think that’s independent. Although I always find it fascinating that the guys try harder when there are spectators in the hall.

Finally, a question about the cup match: How do you rate TVE’s sporting chances? What can we expect?

I believe that ASV Hamm, with their squad and their ambitions, are the clear favorites in the cup match. But we are not going to Hamm to give them a place in the next round. We are doing very well ourselves at the moment. We have a great team and want to demand everything from Hamm. We will know after the game if that is enough in the end.
