Indonesian weightlifting team coach Muhammad Rusli confirmed that Indonesia’s top female weightlifters will put on their best performance in the women’s +81 kg weightlifting class at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Yes, Nurul is ready to give her best performance,” said Rusli as reported by BetweenSaturday (10/8).

Nurul became the last Indonesian athlete to appear in the weightlifting event that will be held at the 2024 Olympics at the South Paris Arena 6 on Sunday (11/7) local time.

The 21-year-old lifter has undergone adequate preparation, starting from a training camp in Jakarta held by the Indonesian Weightlifting Association to a training camp of around two weeks in Montpellier, France.

He said that the appearance of Nurul’s two colleagues, Eko Yuli Irawan and Rizki Juniansyah, provided Nurul with the opportunity to strengthen her physical and mental condition so that she could perform optimally in the arena.

“The point is that Nurul will compete with all her might and try her best to give her best for the Indonesian nation,” added Rusli.

Nurul’s appearance this time will be her second time at the Olympics, after participating in the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. This means that the lifter from Aceh has experience in the atmosphere of the world’s highest sporting competition, making her more prepared to compete.

The weightlifting branch has contributed a gold medal for Indonesia through male lifter Rizki Juniansyah in the 73 kg class with a total lift of 154 kg in the form of a snatch lift of 155 kg and a clean and jerk of 199 kg.

Meanwhile, lifter Eko Yuli Irawan, who performed first, did not win a medal and suffered an injury while competing in the clean and jerk.

Rizki’s gold medal adds to the medal collection for the Indonesian team to two golds after previously won by rock climber Veddriq Leonardo and one bronze won by women’s singles badminton athlete Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. (Z-6)
